Oxycodone Acetaminophen: Uses, Dosage & More

Elderly patients (aged 65 years or older) may have increased sensitivity PERCOCET. Evaluate patients for signs of urinary retention or reduced gastric motility when PERCOCET is used concomitantly with anticholinergic drugs. If concomitant use is warranted, frequently evaluate the patient, particularly during treatment initiation and dose adjustment. Although oxycodone may cross-react with some drug urine tests, no available studies were found which determined the duration of detectability of oxycodone in urine drug screens. However, based on pharmacokinetic data, the approximate duration of detectability for a single dose of oxycodone is roughly estimated to be one to two days following drug exposure.

This is especially important for elderly patients, who may be more sensitive to the effects of pain medicines. If too much of this medicine is taken for a long time, it may become habit-forming (causing mental or physical dependence). Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. When you are taking this medicine, it is especially important that your healthcare professional know if you are taking any of the medicines listed below.

Risks of Use in Patients

If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, call your health care provider right away. This medicine has aspirin, which may cause harm to a fetus and complications during delivery. This medicine also has an opioid called oxycodone and may cause opioid withdrawal symptoms in your baby, which can be life-threatening. Your health care provider will let you know if you should take oxycodone/aspirin while you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. Do not take oxycodone/aspirin during pregnancy without talking to your health care provider.

Increased Risk of Seizures in Patients with

Warn patients not to drive or operate dangerous machinery unless they are tolerant to the effects of ROXICODONE and know how they will react to the medication see Patient Counseling Information. Table 1 includes clinically significant drug interactions with ROXICODONE. This medicine may cause serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention. Call your doctor right away if you have a rash, itching, hoarseness, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, or any swelling of your hands, face, or mouth while you are using percocet: uses, dosage, side effects warnings this medicine. This is not a complete list of side effects and other serious side effects may occur.

Severe Hypotension

percocet: uses, dosage, side effects warnings

The risk of an opioid overdose is greater in a person who is abusing the drug. Taking too much acetaminophen can cause liver damage or liver failure. The risk of liver damage is higher if you already have liver problems, take warfarin, or drink more than three alcoholic beverages per day.

What should I tell my health care provider before using oxycodone/aspirin?

Mental dependence (addiction) is less likely to occur when opioids are used for this purpose. Physical dependence may lead to withdrawal symptoms if treatment is stopped suddenly. However, severe withdrawal symptoms can usually be prevented by gradually reducing the dose over a period of time before treatment is stopped completely. Similarly, discontinuation of a CYP3A4 inducer, such as rifampin, carbamazepine, and phenytoin, in ROXICODONE-treated patients may increase oxycodone plasma concentrations and prolong opioid adverse reactions. When using ROXICODONE with CYP3A4 inhibitors or discontinuing CYP3A4 inducers in ROXICODONE-treated patients, evaluate patients at frequent intervals and consider dosage reduction of ROXICODONE until stable drugs effects are achieved see DRUG INTERACTIONS. Individually titrate ROXICODONE to a dose that provides adequate analgesia and minimizes adverse reactions.

  • Opioid antagonists, such as naloxone, are specific antidotes to respiratory depression resulting from opioid overdose.
  • Call your health care provider right away if you have any of the following symptoms.
  • The highest doses tested in rats and rabbits were equivalent to approximately 2.6 and 8.1 times an adult human dose of 60 mg/day, respectively, on a mg/m² basis.
  • Certain medicines should not be used at or around the time of eating food or eating certain types of food since interactions may occur.
  • Oxycodone/aspirin may also be used for other conditions as determined by your health care provider.
  • This medicine will add to the effects of alcohol and other CNS depressants.

Safe Reduction or Discontinuation of Oxycodone Hydrochloride and Acetaminophen Tablets and Oral Solution

Oxycodone/aspirin may make it hard for you to get pregnant or get your partner pregnant. A high portion of oxycodone is N-dealkylated to noroxycodone during first-pass metabolism, and is catalyzed by CYP3A4. The metabolism of oxycodone to oxymorphone is catalyzed by CYP2D6 see DRUG INTERACTIONS. Free and conjugated noroxycodone, free and conjugated oxycodone, and oxymorphone are excreted in human urine following a single oral dose of oxycodone. The major circulating metabolite is noroxycodone with an AUC ratio of 0.6 relative to that of oxycodone.

Your doctor may have you mix the concentrate with a small amount of liquid or food. Carefully follow the instructions and take the medicine mixture right away. Appropriate studies have not been performed on the relationship of age to the effects of Oxaydo®, Roxicodone®, Roxybond™, and Xtampza® ER in the pediatric population.

  • Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects.
  • Management of respiratory depression may include close observation, supportive measures, and use of opioid antagonists, depending on the patient’s clinical status see OVERDOSAGE.
  • Consider prescribing naloxone when the patient has household members (including children) or other close contacts at risk for accidental ingestion or overdose.
  • Discuss with the patient and caregiver the availability of naloxone for the emergency treatment of opioid overdose, both when initiating and renewing treatment with ROXICODONE.
  • It is not known whether these effects on fertility are reversible see Use In Specific Populations.

Advise patients to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms of hyperalgesia, including worsening pain, increased sensitivity to pain, or new pain see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS, ADVERSE REACTIONS. Discuss with the patient and caregiver the availability of naloxone for the emergency treatment of opioid overdose, both when initiating and renewing treatment with ROXICODONE. Advise patients to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms of hyperalgesia, including worsening pain, increased sensitivity to pain, or new pain see WARNINGS; ADVERSE REACTIONS.

Evaluate patients for signs of diminished diuresis and/or effects on blood pressure and increase the dosage of the diuretic as needed. It is not known whether these effects on fertility are reversible see ADVERSE REACTIONS. Inform female patients of reproductive potential that PERCOCET can cause fetal harm and to inform the healthcare provider of a known or suspected pregnancy see PRECAUTIONS; Pregnancy.

Roxicodone (oxycodone) is an opioid analgesic prescribed to treat moderate to severe pain. Some side effects of acetaminophen / oxycodone may occur that usually do not need medical attention. Check with your doctor before using this medicine with alcohol or other medicines that affect the central nervous system (CNS).

The analgesic activity profile of other metabolites is not known at present. The activity of ROXICODONE (oxycodone hydrochloride) tablets is primarily due to the parent drug oxycodone. ROXICODONE tablets are designed to provide immediate release of oxycodone. Because the duration of opioid reversal is expected to be less than the duration of action of oxycodone in ROXICODONE, carefully monitor the patient until spontaneous respiration is reliably reestablished. If the response to an opioid antagonist is suboptimal or only brief in nature, administer additional antagonist as directed by the product’s prescribing information.
